We condemn the worst terror attack ever in the history of India and we commend the security forces who rescued the city. We salute the brave men who lost their lives protecting the integrity and sanity of the nation. We mourn the death of all those innocents who fell to the terror. |
Now that the fingers are pointed at different direction for accountability, I ask are we the citizens also not accountable. Today its Mumbai ....tomorrow it can be Navi Mumbai. I ask should we be resilient and wait for the next terror attack to happen. It is a definite NO! |
I want to see Navi Mumbaikars, myself included, refuse to be resilient. To channel our collective anguish into being a Navi Mumbaikar in action and not just in attitude. To do what we do best – take charge, solve problems, set the standards for what diverse, vibrant, inclusive satellite city ought to aspire to. |
I believe that, WE THE PEOPLE ARE THE FIRST LINE OF DEFENCE AND ATTACK. When I mean ‘attack’ – not that equips youth, the with hatred, propaganda, fanaticism and weapon skills but one that equips that same youth, the middle aged, student, senior citizens and every woman with an awareness of what it takes to preserve one’s home and city – the community skills and ideas that make individuals realise that they are the first care-taker and good neighbour, not the security forces. It’s about time we stood up and counted ourselves as part of the response to local terrorism. |
It is up to we the citizens to take up this challenge! I propose that citizens of the Sector 9A join in the ‘Neighbourhood Crime-Watch Team’, similar to what many cities have around the world. This team would be composed of residents of the sector who would be the vigilant eyes and ears of the ward and will be far better at being able to prevent this type of heinous terrorist or criminals from being able to carry out their deadly mission. |
We appeal to all to Be Alert, Be Secure and Be Safe...by following simple guidelines: |
Be alert on Strangers in your neighbourhood.
Be alert on Strange objects in your neighbourhood.
Be alert on Strange activity in your neighbourhood.
Be alert of Strange neighbour in your society. |
Come join the movement of change..........TOGETHER ,WE CAN. |

After the terror strike in Mumbai....everyone was making slogans, sms, stickers, hoarding, but I felt these things does not convert into anything conceret action to prevent or protect from these issues. So we sat down and worked out a plan of action. |
Our NGO 'Voice of People Foundation, started an initiative called 'Be Alert,Be Secure,Be Safe' campaign to start within Sector 9A and 10 A. This is an initiative wherein we are making two representative from each society to represent in "Neighborhood Crime Watch Team"
These representatives will be networked with other society representative whereby there would be team of 50 - 60 dedicated team members who will stand by in case of any emergency from our ward. The two representatives name and number would be provided to all the members of that society, so that in any emergency the member can immediately connect to the two representative of NCWT....and they in turn can ....(a) attend to the emergency if available (b) call other members of NCWT if not available (c) Attend the emergency also call for more help thru the members. |
The emergencies we are talking of can be...medical, accident, fire, strange activities, anything that is not personal. |
We got a good response from members of various society after circulating a circular on our letter head to all the residents (Content Copy Attached). We distributed it after consultation with the Sr. Inspector, Vashi Police Station - Mr S Chowugule, who was very appreciative of the efforts were doing. |
We are organized our the first NCWT members meeting at TamilSangam Hall on 20th December, 2008 at 10.30 am on the first floor hall. |
The initial 28 odd members attended this meeting. The response from the residents was overwhelming and responsive. Incidentally with out any publicity Shri Shankar Mahadhevan, world famous singer and music directorwas one of the participants at the meeting as an invitee. He participated as much as the members in understanding how the plan would work, what would be its structure.etc. Avery interesting interactive session happened. He fully supported the initiative and said it should be spread all over the city so that the people in particular and society in general can be safe and safeguarded from such anti-national as well as anti-social elements. Cheering and wishing VOPF and the NCWT members – the very best, he promised to be part of VOPF in its future endeavors. |
This interactive session would be followed by another gathering later after all the societies have made their representation to NCWT. This meeting will be addressed by us and Vashi Police station Sr. PI Mr Sudhir Chowgule |
We intend do this initiative as a case study in this ward and then take it forward to other wards. |
Hope our small efforts may lead to better and safe living for tomorrow. |
